Cool Latin Movies on YouTube: La Sayona

Cool Latin Movies on YouTube: La Sayona

It's October, and that means my favorite holiday is around the corner.

This year, I decided to turn to my homeland for spookspiration - bye Hocus Pocus and let us give a warm hola to La Sayona.

La Sayona is an old Venezuelan folk tale that (unfortunately) was brought to the small screen in the 1990s. The legend says La Sayona's husband cheated on her, she went apesh*t and had a miscarriage which drove her to kill herself. Now she comes back to spook cheating men. How? She hitchhikes as a total babe, and once she gets the men into bed, she turns into an ugly monster + kills them.

This story is also known as la llorona, which means the crier.

The story of La Sayona is often used to manipulate children - "if you don't do your HW, La Sayona will come out" type-a-thing, which was scary enough, but then I endured the torture of watching the movie once it was released on TV when I was prob. around 7.

Now that I rewatched the film on YouTube, I am confident that I am not La Sayona's target victim and can sleep more easily.
